On December 3, the National Bank of Georgia and “Junior Achievement Georgia” hosted a youth “innovation camp” on the topic of financial education at the Gori Educational University in order to promote financial education and engagement of the young generation.
The event was held within the framework of the American Agency for International Development (USAID) project – “Supporting entrepreneurship education in Eastern Europe” with the involvement of five commercial banks – TBC Bank, Bank of Georgia, Finca Bank, VTB Bank, Liberty Bank – and microfinance organization Crystal. More than 120 young people aged 15 to 18 from Gori and Kareli municipalities, Zugdidi and Tbilisi participated in the project.
Financial Education Innovation Camp is an intensive 12-hour idea generation event where students gather around a business and educational challenge in the field of financial education and financial inclusion, and try to solve problems in effective, innovative ways.
Within the framework of the event, young people learned how to develop and formulate ideas under limited time conditions. They had access to the necessary tools, information and resources during the work process. In addition, the participants had the opportunity to receive the necessary information and intensive consultations from experienced experts invited from the banking and financial sector. In addition, they discussed the importance and usefulness of financial education.
According to the project, each group had to submit a presentation and a business plan, based on which the jury, consisting of representatives of the National Bank, the Ministry of Education and Science, the German Savings Banks Foundation (SBFIC) and the Association of Georgian Employers, identified the winner.
The winners were given symbolic gifts, and all participants of the event received a certificate recognized in 123 countries for participating in the “Innovation Camp”.
“Raising the level of financial education among the young generation is one of the important priorities of the National Bank of Georgia. I am glad that we joined “Junior Achievement Georgia” in the implementation of this important and innovative project. The goal of the “Innovation Camp” is to provoke the interest of young people in the direction of financial and entrepreneurship education and to help them solve the problems in this regard as a team. We hope that in the future, we will implement the “Innovation Camp” many times again, this time in other regions of Georgia”, said the President of the National Bank of Georgia, Koba Gvenetadze.
