With funding from The Coca-Cola Foundation, in August 2022, Junior Achievement Georgia launched a one-year project “Economic Empowerment of Young Women of Georgia”, which aims to encourage young women living in rural areas of Georgia to learn and implement entrepreneurship.
The project is implemented in partnership with USAID/Georgia and Coca-Cola Bottlers Georgia and helps USAID’s basic education program achieve its goals of developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills among Georgia’s youth. The project will empower young women with entrepreneurial skills and thereby contribute to the inclusive economic development of Georgia.
The project will train teachers of 30 rural public schools and colleges of Guria, Ajara and Samegrelo/Zemo-Svaneti regions. These teachers will form entrepreneurship education groups and deliver JA’s Be an Entrepreneur program to approximately 1,000 young women in their respective schools and community colleges. The “Be an Entrepreneur” program promotes business initiatives and teaches the basics of business planning.
As a result of participating in the program, young people will: study the characteristics and practices of successful entrepreneurship; will be equipped to evaluate entrepreneurial ideas; and develop key business skills such as start-up, marketing, finance, management and ethical decision-making.
At the end of the program, the young women will compete for funding for their business plans, with at least 30 of the best business ideas being funded and supported.
