Ourselves (ages 5 to 8)

I class

The program makes it visible to students the relevance of their future workplace to their education. It is built on the relevant role concepts of the level, the first of which are: individual, worker and consumer:

  • An individual develops personal characteristics: building a healthy self-concept, taking responsibility, cooperating with others, making decisions, and setting personal goals.
  • The worker learns the value and importance of work, the types of work and the expectations of the employer.
  • The user makes a decision on the allocation of limited resources.

Objectives of the program:

  • supplement the elementary social studies curriculum with skills and concepts related to business and economics;
  • to increase students’ knowledge in the field of “personal economy”;
  • help students understand that individuals make choices;
  • introduce students to money in such a way as to emphasize the aspects of earning and saving it;
  • To make students understand the importance of education for their future.

The program consists of 5 lessons and each of them includes:

  • Overview – a brief description of the activities to be conducted by the teacher.
  • Objectives – learning outcomes: what knowledge and skills the student will acquire from the lesson.
  • Preparation — tips for lesson preparation.
  • Concepts and Skills — A list of concepts and skills for each lesson.
  • Conclusion and summary – before the end of the lesson, the objectives of the lesson will be reviewed again.
  • Setting personal goals—encouraging students to connect each activity to learning goals and career opportunities.
  • Cross-curricular activities — activities performed by the teacher in the lessons of other subjects, which expand the student’s knowledge. Lesson outline — a coherent scenario of the lesson so that the teacher can easily achieve the objectives.

A list of required materials is defined for each lesson:

  • Teacher’s Guide;
  • student’s notebook;
  • Study guide “We ourselves”;
  • Additional materials corresponding to individual lesson activities (“handouts”).
